It’s a mantra I have been using for a few years now. Dory got it right… just keep swimming. When all else seems lost, the world seems foreign, my body seems to betray me and my mind keeps failing, I just kept swimming. Looking back, I didn’t do it very well some days.. At times it feels like I am just floating on my back and drifting, other times, face down and struggling; more lately maybe I am swimming through rapids.. For I feel like I am an active player in my life again. There are times though, I wish I wasn’t…
Maybe that’s this next step for me… Understanding that my recover mimics life in many ways. We do not live linearly, just as we do not heal linearly, we are kind of all over the place.. Or maybe I’m just taking everyone around me on the same ride.. But nah, I don’t think that highly of myself. I wish I could create a field around that spread like wildfire for human rights and justice. But I’m not sure I have that kind of energy yet.. I mean, recovery is so new. And I’m realizing just because I have recovered from my chronic migraines, I have not been moving for almost a decade and that has big consequences.
That’s enough of that though, I’m moving right now; so things are a bit messy and all over the place. And it is reminding me to just keep swimming.
On the topic of America, we are a mess. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, our government agencies are being shut down, our social security, medicare and low income help is under threat with cuts from the muskrats and doge-bags. There are protests and i will be getting info out to people so they can attend. The best news I heard today is that Musk lost $20 billion in is companies lately due to everyone hating him and what he is doing to our government. Tesla is going under, I hope along with spaceX and everything else he has. Ultimate karmic justice is him needing the very programs he is saying are useless and corrupt. Then maybe he will understand how helpful food stamps are when you can’t eat, or medicaid is when you can’t afford insurance but it’s required to help you get the medication you need so you can even want to live on this earth. Social security helps injured and older people get income based on what they paid in while they were working. None of our systems are perfect and there is room for improvements everywhere, but you do not improve departments by cutting the very people who work in them without first going through a process of understanding the systems that are being used and ways to improve them that may allow a workforce reduction, but you don’t start by reducing…. You have let go of the very people that know how things work.
Our parks, our civil servants, it seems every where the Trump-dumps can touch, they do and only to destroy and harm it seems.
I have been a bit absent here for a little while, hubby and I bought a house and have been moving. Boy it’s a lot of work regardless, but my arms have been failing me lately and that makes it even harder as I am unable to help in the ways I would like and things are taking much longer because I have to wait for others to be available to help.
I am on social security and now they are starting to attack that program. I am also on medicare and that will be coming soon as well. And on top of worrying about whether I will be able to keep paying my bills, the trump-dumps are coming after my right to vote now too!!! They want to put restrictions on voter registration to make it harder for me to vote, requiring me to have an updated passport or birth certificate with my name on it. NEWS FLASH: for those of us who changed our names when we got married, a birth certificate is out; therefore only a passport will do if I want to vote, which means I have to pay almost $100 to go to the passport office with photos that can be used (special size and head shot only required, more money out of pocket) to get an updated passport. And I have to do this months before wanting to vote because it used to take months to get this document. Now, with all the cuts to the departments, it may take close to a year, and maybe that’s what they want… to make it so I can’t vote; and millions of other Americans who would rather buy food or pay their electric bill with that $125 then try to get a passport so they can vote.
I told you they were coming for our right to vote…. now it’s here.. along with social security … I yet I will go to volunteering today to help others that show up to get help, in a society that makes asking for help a sign of weakness; when it is the exact opposite. Be brave, ask for help and let the world surprise you with it’s answer. I have been blown away at the level of help I am received from my community because I asked for it. They helped me move over half our stuff to the new place. Just showed up and made an assembly line and went to town, it was so amazing. I am so fortunate to have such wonderful people around me at this stage of my life. And like the sticker on my mirror says…just keep swimming. xoxo
